As a Granni myself, I know just how fast those precious baby moments fly by. Many of us want to capture and save special items as our babies grow. For example, my family has a well-preserved Christening gown that is over 80 years old. It has been used over and over for several of our babies. And, it still looks as good as the day it was first worn. Only the white satin ribbons down the front of the dress have been replaced from time to time.
The details here are for my hand-crocheted blankets. All my blankets are created from acrylic, polyester or nylon/acrylic blend yarns. They can all be washed and dried in the washing machine and dryer using the cool, gentle cycles. It’s really easy to preserve your baby blanket:
- Wash and thoroughly dry your blanket according to the fabric instructions.
- Wrap the blanket in acid-free tissue paper. Available at amazon.com and other packing-supply stores.
- Store your folded and tissue paper-wrapped blanket in an acid-free box. Available at amazon.com and other packing-supply stores.
- Store your box in a cool, dry space. PLEASE NOTE that attics can be very, very hot and basements can be very, very damp.
Many friends tell me that they take out their Baby Keepsakes on their child’s birthday every year and enjoy looking through their special memories. The children really like this tradition too.
